Update May 2010/更新5月

Dear Friends and Shamanic Practitioners,

1. I’ve just returned from the US where I spoke extensively with Dr. Harner and he’s quite excited about the positive interest in Japan. Feedback from participants in the first two Basic courses in Tokyo and Kyoto can seen in this email further below.

2. There have been a number of inquiries regarding drumming circles in Kanto and Kansai. We continue to coordinate interest, but it may not be until after we’ve offered a few more Basic courses that the drumming circles can get off the ground. Drumming circles are of course free-of-charge. If you’re interested in hosting a practice circle, please let me know and read the following article by the Executive Director of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies (FSS): http://www.shamanism.org/articles/article14.html

3. I’ve reopened my Shamanic Healing Practice in Kansai. Please see this page for more information: http://www.shamanism-asia.com/en/services/

4. There is a slight schedule change this month. The Way of the Shaman Basic course to be held in Kyoto this month is being postponed to next month, 19-20 June. The Way of the Shaman Basic course in Tokyo remains on the 29-30 May weekend in Shimokitazawa. Hope to see many of you at either of these two courses! The advanced courses on Shamanic Extraction and Shamanism, Dying and Beyond will soon be scheduled for July and September:  http://www.shamanism-asia.com/en

Visions of the Huichol

You are invited to a special lecture in Kyoto —

Award-winning media artist and documentary filmmaker, Professor Mara Alper, will talk about Huichol Shamansim —”Visions of the Huichol”— this Sunday, January 24th from 14:00 at the Kampo Museum in Okazaki, Kyoto.

This is also an excellent opportunity to see the “yarn paintings” of the Huichol Shaman Jose Benitez Sanchez of Mexico which are on display at the museum to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Japan-Mexico ties.

The Kampo Museum is located across the street from the southeast corner of Heian Shrine in Okazaki Park. Map and directions: http://www.kampo.co.jp/english/MUSEUM-E/MUSEUM2.html 075-771-7130
