Becoming FSS Asia Teaching Faculty

Three-Year Programme graduates resident in Asia/Oceania may apply to FSS Asia Teacher Training. As the Director for Asia is already teaching regularly in Bali and Thailand, we have openings for guest faculty for elsewhere in Asia/Oceania.

Prerequisites: Completion of the 3-Year Program is a prerequisite to APPLY to FSS Asia Teacher Training, but this alone is not a guarantee of acceptance. Acceptance depends on a number of factors, including the need in your area of residence in Asia/Oceania. Generally, guest faculty live and teach in their territory of residence. Only a few FSS Asia 3-Year graduates will be accepted to Teacher Training; ability to teach in the Asian language of your territory would be a definite advantage, but is not an absolute requirement. Generally, there is only one FSS Asia faculty member in each area, though large population centers might have space for more. If you move to a new area or country of residence after starting teacher training, you must re-apply and acceptance is again not guaranteed. A regular shamanic healing practice is expected, as well as regular attendance at Journey Circles in your area or online. Acceptance to Teacher Training also does not guarantee that you will pass the training. If accepted to Teacher Training by the Reviw Committee, one must twice observe the director (at least once) or other senior faculty teaching the Basic Way of the Shaman, and write up a course outline and notes. If this passes muster, guest faculty are territorialized; a candidate teaches the basic Way of the Shaman in their area of residence as guest faculty for usually one year. If this goes well over the first year, one can then apply to train to teach Advanced 2-day courses; this entails observing the Director for Asia teach those advanced workshops at least once (not including the first as a participant), as well as another FSS faculty once. Becoming full official faculty is a slow process, and although most accepted applicants to training pass, there are no guarantees at any step of the process. Also, FSS requires all faculty to be teaching only Core Shamanism, not directly competing forms of shamanism. Additionally, guest faculty are expected to teach at least two basic Way of the Shaman 2-day courses in their territory each year in order to maintain their qualification. Teaching for FSS is also not intended to advertise your other workshops or other events. Applications can be made at any time. In the meantime, please don't quit your day jobs! Shamanism is nearly always a part-time profession. Within indigenous cultures, even the best of the shamans usually have ordinary reality (OR) day jobs too! Request an application
