Shamanic Dreamwork

In this unique experiential workshop you will have the opportunity to explore the nature, meaning, and use of dreams among shamanic peoples, with dreamwork practices from a range of cultures. Researched and developed by Michael Harner, subjects to be covered include shamanic dream theory and big dreams, as well as dreams and the soul, spirits, shamanic journeys, the Dreamtime, and the vision quest. You will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge to contemporary life, including the use of dreams in divination, health, and healing. Dreams do not occur only during sleep, but also in various altered states of consciousness. They are a remarkable phenomenon and may a high relevance for our everyday life. Shamans have known since ancient times that dreams are a fundamental way of communicating with spirits. Therefore, in some cultures, dreams are understood as a key to access non-ordinary reality.

Participants in this workshop gain knowledge about the nature, meaning and shamanic use of dreams. They learn examples from different shamanic cultures and work with their own dreams and the dreams of others. This program is how shamans actually work with dreams; it is not psychoanalytic dream analysis, nor lucid dreaming. We will mostly work with dreams that you have already received, so it is useful to start recording your dreams in advance. This workshop addresses:

  • The nature of dreams and a shamanic dream theory

  • Practical methods to learn more about your dreams and to harness their power

  • Utilizing dreams as a means to communicate with the spirits

  • Use of dreams for shamanic divination and healing work

  • Deepened understanding of daydreaming, visions and other altered states of consciousness

*Prerequisite for participation is completion of the basic Way of the Shaman workshop.
